Similar to us heading to the doctor for checkups, or for care after an accident, cars head to the garage for their own form of checkups.

Many garages repair several types of cars, but many repairs are categorized by the type of car. Different mechanics would, for example, handle different models and brands of cars according to experience. Another classification that mechanics follow is to choose between domestic and foreign vehicles.

Domestic cars refer to cars made in the region or country where the garage is based, while foreign cars are cars made outside of that region or country. Different mechanics might specialize in one or both, and, like any other field, years spent on a particular aspect translate to experience. Work in the garage ranges from transmission to brakes and from engines to upgrades such as engine capacity. It is not unusual for mechanics to have preferred cars they like to work on; it’s called specialization for a reason.
